To open the Snipping Tool, press the Start key, type snipping tool, and then press Enter. If you enabled the option, you can take screenshots on Windows 10 using the Print Screen key.

Hit the Print Screen button. Select the type of snip you want to use, including: Rectangular Clip. Take the screenshot. The entire screen changes to gray including the open menu. Select Mode, or in earlier versions of Windows, select the arrow next to the New button.

Select the kind of snip you want, and then select the area of the screen capture that you want to capture. To launch the Snipping Tool in Windows 10, click the Start button. You can also launch the Snipping Tool from Command Prompt. Your screen will fade to a white overlay and your cursor will change from a pointed cursor to a crosshair cursor. Select the portion of your screen that you wish to grab. Open the Snipping Tool and select Options. Place a check mark in Always copy snips to the Clipboard.

Click OK. You can also paste it on an editing tool to save the image. Click the camera icon to take a simple screenshot or hit the Start Recording button to capture your screen activity. Some snipping tools include ability to screenshot a scrolling screen; scrolls can be captured vertically or horizontally. A print screen key PrtSc is a useful key found in most keyboards, and is supported by most keyboards and personal computers.

The print screen key provides the user the functionality of capturing the image or text found on screen display. If Snipping Tool is not appearing even after rebuilding the search index, you can consider pinning the Snipping Tool shortcut to the taskbar or Start menu. You can also create a shortcut of the same on the desktop. The app is still called Screen Sketch on the Microsoft Store. Search for Snipping tool.

Double click on it and under Startup type, select Manual. Then click on Disable. Click on Apply and click on OK. This should bring up the Settings dialog. In particular, enter your desired path to automatically save screenshots to in the Storage location field. You can terminate it in Settings. Open the File Explorer app. Go to the location where you store the backed up Settings folder and copy it.

Paste the copied Settings folder here. The snips are indeed saved to the clipboard and are kept in clipboard history until the computer is rebooted, much the same as it has been since the days of XP, where we actually had a clipboard history viewer built in to the OS. The Windows key has the Microsoft logo on it and is found between the left Ctrl and Alt keys on the keyboard.

Pressing the Windows key by itself opens the Start menu that also displays the search box. Holding down the Windows key and pressing another key, to trigger a keyboard shortcut, can speed up common tasks. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time. After about two seconds, the screen will flash and your screenshot will be captured.
